Speak The Language They Understand

Love is expressed through emotional languages. A love language is the ability to express love and concern to another person in their primary emotional language.

As a language teacher, one of the emphasis of parents is not to allow L2 to take over L1. L1 is your primary language while L2 is any other language of choice.

When you’re speaking love to your children in any other language than the primary emotional language of theirs L2 is taking the place of L1

When there is a language barrier, misunderstanding and confusion is inevitable. Sometimes fear and insecurities can set in.

When you say come to me in a language other than the one I understand, I will not respond. The reason is we are not on the same page.

A lot of parents actually do express love to their children and wonder why they don’t seem to appreciate it or respond back. The challenge is that you’re speaking your own emotional language  rather than theirs.

What communicates love to you might not communicate love to them. Hence it’s of utmost import to learn their emotional language.

Real lovers actually speak the language  their lovers understand
